I go to the grocery store a lot. We’re talking three to four times a week. Even more depending on the week. I used to do the once a week thing, but in my quest for clean eating, I find myself shopping more often. Why? Usually it’s because I hate buying a bunch of asparagus on Saturday and not cooking it until Thursday. Weird, I know. Anyway, here’s what a trip to the grocery store looks like: steak, chicken breasts, ground chicken breasts, chicken sausage, eggs, greek yogurt, oatmeal, quinoa, fresh ground peanut butter and almond butter, asparagus, peppers, butternut squash, avocado, kiwi, local whole wheat bread, organic tomato sauce and almond milk.

Came across this one on Pinterest. Take two or three bananas, cut them up, smear peanut butter on them and cover with melted (I used dark) chocolate. Freeze for a few hours and enjoy!

polar FT7 heart rate monitor

Posted: July 9, 2012 in Fitness

I’ve been dying to get a heart rate monitor to use while I workout. I finally started looking around and stumbled upon a used one. Got this Polar FT7 for $55. I love, love, love it. I find myself pushing harder during workouts to make sure I’m getting everything I can out of it.

Here’s a shot after a 50 minute hike the other day.

Grind up almonds, add unsweetened coconut, cumin, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. Dip chicken breasts in egg wash. Drench the chicken in almond/coconut/spice mix. Cook in pan with a few tablespoons of coconut oil until done.

Well, it only took a few Friday nights (and one or two Saturday afternoons) for our new favorite BBQ place (Desert Magnolia) to recognize us when we came in. Mostly, they knew that Friday night was our cheat night so we were out looking for food! This is the massive combo I ordered one night. Yes, those are chicken nachos on bottom 🙂

I enjoyed the combo tremendously, but saw a paleo salad I had to try. Meet my new favorite meal (and I don’t even need to consider this a cheat!)

Chicken salad, paleo style.

I made the peanut butter cookie Larabar last week. Those were so delicious I decided to go digging for more “raw” recipes. I found these raw brownies (top) on Pinterest. Made them along with some oatmeal raisin bars (bottom).  YUM!

Three ingredients is all it takes to make this easy treat. Recipe can be found on the Gluten Free Blog.

I’ve been getting extras with my Bountiful Baskets recently. A few weeks back I got a flat of strawberries. I decided to make some freezer jam using Powercakes chia jam recipe. I trimmed up the strawberries, cooked them in the microwave for a few minutes, put them in the blender, threw in some chia seeds, along with agave nectar because I haven’t gotten the husband off sugar yet, then poured the mixture into my plastic freezer jars.

Salmon on the grill, oven roasted butternut squash with mashed cauliflower (added fresh chopped thyme, rosemary, onions and garlic).

This was the first time I put sweet potatoes in with my scrambled eggs. Wow, topped it with some feta cheese. Also had turkey bacon and Ezekiel bread with strawberry chia seed jam (that I made!).
